Earlier today (about 11.30 am) I was on my way to the shops. I was walking along the public footpath and was about to press the crossing buzzer to cross the road. All of a sudden I was hit on my right side and run over by a lady on a four wheel mobility scooter. She sent me flying through the air and as I landed on the ground, she then run me over with both the front and back wheels of the mobility scooter. Straight over both legs. I was in agony and was unable to get up off the ground. Two awesome people (whom I don't know) stopped their cars to help. A guy called Carl picked me up and helped me to a nearby seat so I could sit down. An awesome lady (whose name I cannot remember) also stopped and called an ambulance for me. She then sat with me, with her arms around me holding me up because I felt like I was going to faint, and she waited with me until the ambulance arrived. I was taken to a nearby emergency clinic where I waited for treatment. I have a deep wound on my left thigh, I also have an injury to my left elbow, left knee and left ankle, I have a huge bruise where the mobility scooter hit me, on my right thigh, as well as a graze on my right hand. When it happened I was in shock and didn't know if I had been hit by a car or what. The lady on the mobility scooter was going way too fast and didn't stop when she run me over! She did stop when she saw I was injured, but left before the Police got there. However, she gave me her details, which the Police also have.
I am home now, but spent three hours in the Emergency clinic, blood all over my jeans and feeling SORE. The Ambulance crew were just amazing. They gave me some pain killers which helped. I recognized the lady that run me over because I have seen her many times at the shopping mall I go to, and she is always going way too fast. I avoid her if I see her coming. This time she got me:-( The Ambulance crew said the brakes on the mobility scooters aren't very good, and the scooters take awhile to brake. Yeah, well, I can attest to that!
I just feel battered, bruised and very sore, and somewhat emotional. (that is the shock) Very happy there are no broken bones, and my hip I had replaced is fine. An experience I don't want to repeat, ever, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. It's not pleasant at all.
Ok, I think I might go and "dabble" with my stamps and take my mind off things! Thank you for listening:-)
Update - The Day After: As the day wore on yesterday more bruises appeared. I have bruises on my right arm, bruising behind my left ear, my left hip has a bruise on it, (yes, right where I had my hip replacement) my pelvis is bruised, the left side of my chest is sore, my neck is very sore all down my right side, my left calf muscle has big bruises on it, and my ribs are also sore. I am SORE:-( I am not allowed to have a shower yet because the dressings they put on aren't water proof:-( Tomorrow I see the nurse to get the dressings changed and hopefully she will put waterproof ones on:-)
SECOND UPDATE-PHOTOS: below is the injury on my thigh from where the lady run me over the first time. Second time she run over my lower legs and ankles.
Same injury after it had been cleaned by the nurse this morning.
My which is now the size of a football and very painful left knee.
My left ankle, I had to get a support bandage for my ankle because it is so painful to put any weight on it.
My "plastered" left foot/ankle. You can't see the bruising but I assure you it is there!
My left elbow after the nurse dressed it this morning. They re concerned about the injury to my thigh because it is kind of 'open'. They can't stitch it because they said the blood circulation is not good and it may not heal if it was stitched. I have an ACC nurse coming to dress it again on Monday. I did take a photo of the elbow before it was dressed but haven't downloaded it. Next post! While I was in the local Pharmacy this morning, where I am VERY well known, they could see I was limping and asked if I was ok. I said I had been run over by a lady on a mobility scooter and told them where it happened. The pharmacy assistant said "Oh my God! It wasn't that lady..." and went on to describe the woman, and then she said, "OMG she is ALWAYS speeding on that thing." So this woman is well known for speeding, and not just by me.
Anyway I now have waterproof dressing on my injuries, so I am allowed to have a SHOWER now! Yay!
I have been in touch with the Police, and because of my injuries they are coming here to the house to interview me so I can make a formal complaint. This woman who run me over is well known for speeding on her mobility scooter. Se needs to be held accountable. So far it has cost me $55 in medical costs. $55 I couldn't afford, and especially at this time of year. I am not sure if there will be any more medical costs or not. It will depend on how my injuries heal.
UPDATE: 29th December 2018:
Was at my GP's office yesterday (28-12-2018)to get my medication sorted out. I have Addisons Disease and had become very unwell last night and needed help with my medication. I've been put onto Prednisone (temporarily) in hope of keeping me out of hospital.
I have just had An ACC nurse come to clean my wounds as the thigh wound was bleeding through the bandage. They will be back next Tuesday to clean the wounds again. No cost!! Yippee! I have now spent $75 on medical costs for an accident that was not my fault. I was interviewed by the Police on Friday regarding the incident, and they have taken it very seriously. The woman who run me over left the accident scene before the Police arrived. Not a good thing to do, to cause an accident and leave before the Police arrive. Mistake number one. I want the woman to be held accountable for what she has done. I am saving all my receipts for my medical bills and I want her to reimburse me for them. The Police said there are several offences she can be charged with. I am just waiting to hear back from them as to where to from here. As it stands at present, I am in a lot of pain and take pain killers four times a day to keep the pain level down. Sleeping is a challenge because I can't get comfortable because of all the bruising all over my body. I can't leave the house because of the pain. I can't do my own grocery shopping. I am hoping to be able to do that by next Tuesday as I have someone coming to take me in the car. I have to use my walking stick to walk because of my ankle and thigh injury. The worst pain is from the thigh injury. It is a deep wound so is still oozing blood. Below is my elbow injury which is healing nicely.
The next two photos are my thigh injury as of today (29-12-2018) which is the one they are concerned about. It has steri strips across it now to hold it together, as well as a waterproof dressing over the top. I don't like looking at these photo's, even though I took them!
